Nuclear Meltdowns, Cannabis and You…oh, and Japan!

For the past 20 + years, since the Nuclear Meltdown in Chernobyl, Cannabis has been used to clean up radioactive waste that was left behind in the soil and water of the surrounding area. A technique called "phytoremediation" uses certain plants to leech these elements from the soil… guess which one is one of the best at that task? Good old industrial hemp, cannabis' non-drug cousin that our government bans because our police are too uneducated to tell the difference. All in all, the field of phytoextraction seems to be one of the most promising in the efforts to clean up the hundreds of thousands of sites worldwide (30,000 in the US alone, according to the EPA), that require hazardous waste treatment. Even if only modestly successful, the use of plants as contaminant removers could reduce cleanup costs considerably. Even more promising, phytoextraction is only one aspect of the whole field of phytoremediation, in which plants are being used not only to remove toxins, but sometimes to break them down (phytotransformation), enhance microbial activity (phytostimulation), or prevent leaching of contaminants in the first place (phytostabalization). In Belarus, site of the original Chernobyl disaster, they are not only using the hemp to clean up the soil, they're making money on the processing of that hemp into biofuel.

This technique of hemp phytoremediation has applications that extend beyond nuclear accident cleanups. If the prohibition of hemp farming was lifted and the industry was allowed to flourish, there could be thousands of new jobs created and a cleaner environment for all.

Plants break down or degrade organic pollutants and stabilize metal contaminants by acting as filters or traps.

Phytoremediation with industrial hemp could be used at many of these sites. Unfortunately, the U.S. government refuses to legalize the cultivation of industrial hemp and clings to the obsolete myth that it is a drug.

Nowhere in the above paragraph does it actually say that they are trying to find a cure and no I don't consider the Title of the event to be enough mention. Idea for Couples.

So it was 'Valentines' Day and I blurted out "Let's do that! Let's spend a weekend chopping trees so that we can build our caskets!" My girlfriend was lost "What caskets?" I was thinking to myself and only let her in on half of my idea. The "Romantic" in me thought that it would be sweet to spend a few years building our own coffins :D I thought to myself "What can be more romantic than spending the weekend with the better-half cutting down trees to build our coffins?" We could even take turns working on each others sometimes, adding personal details to each others box over the course of construction. This way we'd both have a hand in building the box that we eventually rot in. I'd install a killer stereo system because I'll be hanging out in it once it's completed while I'm still alive. Hanging out in the coffin while I'm still 'living' will ensure that it's well broken in and comfortable for when I die. The Stereo will also provide the entertainment during the party and, for a short time, after I'm buried. (Wasn't Jesus a carpenter? He'd respect this idea)

Reverse Un-Boxing

I'm really amazed at how obsessed some people are with buying stuff. It's to the point now that you see people on YouTube actually buying boxes with unknown shit in them from off the internet for the sole purpose of being surprised. There are some "un-boxing" clips that are decent and I do understand the reasoning behind them. I too like to see exactly what it is that I would get if I were to buy something, whatever it may be... Like a brand new computer, or phone, or gaming console. These clips help answer the tough questions like "What do I get with this?" or ... fuck I think that's really the only question. The "un-boxing" clips that my problems are with are the ones that people put up of them opening random $5, $10, $15, $20 boxes with un-known things in them that they bought off the internet. They're all the same. A person is sitting in front of a camera, introduces him/herself, and they then begin to "un-box" their newly received garbage. What I see when I watch these clips is a moron who is unafraid to go out and scream to the world "Ima Fawking Moron!!!" Which leads me to my version of the YouTube "Un-boxing" videos. I'll be calling them "Reverse Un-Boxing". It's a series where I "Reverse Un-Box" random pieces of shit/farbage that I find anywhere and everywhere and ask if anyone on YouTube wants it. The request for the newly "Reversed Un-boxed" product will have to made via video response. I'll be covering 100% of the shipping cost to you, anywhere in the world and you too can be the proud owner of a box full of farbage.

But then again, one mans garbage is another mans treasure!
